President’s Healthcare Address

The President said last night that he would not sign any health care bill that increases the national debt.  Then shouldn’t the current proposal be off the table?  According to the Congressional Budget Office this plan would not even come close to being self-sufficient.  They have determined that it would add $239 billion to the federal deficit in the first ten years.  So the question is, can the federal government implement a plan that is self-sufficient, government run, and covers everyone?  The answer is no.  Where would the money come from to cover 30 million uninsured people (it was 46 million when Obama was campaigning for president)?  The proponents of the “public option” a.k.a “government option” plan say the money would come from savings in medicare/medicaid spending and an overall improvement in efficiency.  First of all, when has the government ever made anything more efficient?  Second of all, if they say they can save all this money by fixing medicare and medicaid well then I say go fix it and then we’ll talk.  The truth is there is no way to pay for this without asking the American people for more money.  I believe we can improve our health care system, I just have more faith in the American people and the American free market system.  The American way has been the best way for 200 years, why change now?  Let’s improve the system with American principles, not European principles.

One Response to President’s Healthcare Address

  1. He also said that they wouldn’t touch Medicare…but if they take $500m out because they think insurers are reaping profits from Medicare Advantage you can bet that the 15m seniors in these plans will see them disappear from the market — just as Medicare Plus Choice disappeared in the 1990s when Congress reduced that funding.
