–noun

  1. an emperor or king
  2. an autocratic ruler or leader
  3. any person exercising great authority or power in a particular field.

The establishment of a Czar is in direct contradiction of the U.S Constitution. Presidents past and present have formed the position with no regard for a Founding Father’s belief in small government. The White House website (www.whitehouse.gov) itself explains the reason for the Constitution was to “create a government with enough power to act on a national level, but without so much power that fundamental rights would be at risk. One way that this was accomplished was to separate the power of government into three branches, and then to include checks and balances on those powers to assure that no one branch of government gained supremacy. This concern arose largely out of the experience that the delegates had with the King of England and his powerful Parliament. The powers of each branch are enumerated in the Constitution, with powers not assigned to them reserved to the states.”

Does the creation of a Czar by definition sound Constitutional to you?

The list below is all the current czars. Keep in mind; our taxes pay for their salaries!

  • Car czar, Ron Bloom [Counselor to the Secretary of the Treasury , under Senate oversight]
UPDATE, 9/07/09: Obama announced his appointment of Ron Bloom as “senior counselor for manufacturing policy,” a move that will eliminate Senate oversight. This position has been dubbed “manufacturing czar” and so this listing moves to a different alphabetical location….

Manufacturing czar, Ron Bloom, formerly a “car czar” under Senate oversight, now reporting directly to the President.
    UPDATE from Labor Day.
    ————————————————

Green jobs czar, Van Jones [who has a communist background]
UPDATE, 9/06/09, Van Jones resigned after an exposé by Glenn Beck.
    ————————————————

    Radio-internet fairness czar
UPDATE, 7/29/09: Mark Lloyd was appointed FCC diversity czar.
    ————————————————

So the listing numbers all change also…

We maintain our original post “below the fold” but are keeping a constantly updated list “above the fold” instead of doing a whole new post, because so many bloggers have linked to “The Compleat List of Czars.”
